Re-Homing Policy

Our Clients

Our clients are lovers of Great Danes! They are people and families looking to expand their home with the love and security offered by these amazing dogs! We have had dogs rehomed all across the united states including Missouri, Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, Kansas, Texas, and Utah.

The GD Ranch carefully screens all potential dog owners to ensure we select people who are able and willing to commit to a forever home. While puppies are adorable and everyone loves them, its important to remember that Great Danes average between 90lbs and 150lbs. This is a specialty breed that requires more work and compromise than an average dog.

Our clients understand and are prepared for major lifestyle changes that come with having a large breed dog.

AKC Registration

The GD Ranch does NOT AKC register our pups. Lineage and purity can be verified through DNA tests provided for free by the American Kennel Association by which you would be able to register on your own. Because of this we keep our fees significantly less than papered dogs.

This is a deliberate choice in order to exclude potential customers who may have different philosophy or intent for their dogs. We are only interested in selling to people looking to expand their family. We are not interested in selling to persons who are interested in Showdog breeding. This is The Tank Policy

The Tank Policy:

Tank is our rescue dog he's a Brown Scooby Doo looking European Dane we found on a local advertisement. He was three years old and fixed when we adopted him. The woman who sold him to me stated she was a foster mom who had too many kids to maintain a Great Dane any longer. That wasn't the truth, she had two other Great Danes ( a male and a female) she was not rehoming.

We later came to learn that Tank had sired 4-5 litters and then was fixed and rehomed. While I realize this is a business and a common practice, it is not consistent with our beliefs and practices, therefore we do not seek to engage with "Showdog" breeders.

Medical Care

Puppies from The GD Ranch are not medically enhanced prior to rehoming. We do not Crop Tails or pin ears. We do not have our puppies fixed. We believe these decisions should be made by the puppies forever family. If any of these procedures are something you are interested in for your pup, we may want to discuss an early pick up so that they can be done early in pups life.

All pups as a standard receive their first well check and first round of shots. All liters are health check certified. A copy of Health Check Certification is provided at time of pick up. The GD Ranch uses Taney County Veterinary Services in Forsyth Missouri, all records are kept their.

Diet & Nutrition

Puppies from The GD Ranch nurse until Mom cant nurse anymore. With Previous litters this lasted just over a month. Puppies are introduced to solid foods by at first mixing them with 2% milk to soften the food.

As they get older we introduce fresh produce and homemade wet food. For breakfast we feed all of our dogs dry food mixed with scrambled eggs, mixed peppers, and carrots. Puppies stay on a mid day lunch diet until about 9-12 months. Dinner is dry food topped with our homemade wet food.

Our homemade wet food includes: brown rice, liver, gizzards, spinach, carrots, eggs, yams, and pure pumpkin puree.

Our dry food brand is Blue Buffalo, for both our puppies and adult dogs. We have found the ingredients to be the most nutritious and natural based in our budget. Every puppy goes home with a small portion to help them transition to your brand of choice.

Housing at GD Ranch

Our new birthing center is currently under construction and we are hoping it will be completed before Nya gives  birth on Christmas eve. It will be a decent sized dog barn directly off the back door of the main house connecting to the detached family room. The birthing center will include two wings, one for sleeping and one for when the puppies are big enough to go into the yard and play. It will be powered and heated with close access from both buildings.

As for now we have a large laundry room inside the main house that we have previously used that seemed to work just great. Except the part where we had to bleach clean the entire laundry room four times a day (hence the birthing center)

Puppies are kept separate from the adult dogs, except mom, for the first few weeks. Once they start eating solid foods and potty training we begin to introduce them to the other dogs. We've learned that this really helps with the potty training process.

Time Frame

Dogs are pregnant for approximately 64 days from time of conception. After puppies are born they remain with their mom for a period of 8 weeks. At about 6-7 weeks all pups get their first round of shots and after that they are able to go to their new homes.

The Process

Once we receive your registration and down payment you will be placed on a waiting list, first come first serve. When Pups are born you will be notified of the colors and genders available for you to choose from. Once you have chosen we will send pictures available within your options for you to make a selection. You will be updated on puppies progress for the next 6-8 weeks and given a pick up appointment.

Please note: we do not deliver or offer third party pick up. We believe its important to meet the new family and allow you to meet puppies parents and see their environment. If in person pick up is absolutely unreasonable based on location, we will ship puppy via aircraft carrier but the client is responsible for all reservations and fees associated with that process.

Down Payments & Fees

A non-refundable Down Payment in the amount of $250.00 is required in order to reserve a puppy. Refunds are only issued in the event that there is not a puppy available. This scenario could happen if there weren't as many pups as originally thought, if a pup doesn't survive birth, or if the client specified a blue pup and none were available from the litter. Factors completely outside the control of the client. The Down payments are used for the care and well being of the pup during the first 8 weeks of life as well as veterinary services. Please be sure that you are 100% committed before placing a down payment.

Our Re-Homing Fees are $1,000 for Black puppies and $1,300 for Blues. We have not had any Brindle or Spotted Danes out of our liters as of yet.

Payment Plans

Payments are due in full at time of pick up unless a written financing agreement is executed. In order to make it easier to manage finances while waiting for puppy, we accept payment plans. After the down payment is received we can offer a plan that fits your budget over a period of 3 months. The first monthly payment is due prior to pick up. Monthly payments include a 10% finance charge and comes to $275.00 for three months for a black dog. Blues are not eligible for payment plans at this time because of their rarity. Anyone is welcome to make payments at no additional cost between the time of deposit and the time of pick up, again with the balance being due prior to pick up.
